Information literacy in the workplace and the employability agenda

Just before Christmas I received a copy of a new Chandos book Information Literacy: Infiltrating the agenda, challenging minds edited by Geoff Walton and Alison Pope.

What was particularly exciting for me about this publication was the chapter on Information literacy in the workplace and the employability agenda. The reason for my excitement was that I along with John Crawford authored the chapter. I have written several journal articles but this was my first published book chapter and it gave me great pride to see my name in print. It reminded me when I saw my name on my first published journal article.

Writing for publications can be a long slow process but rewarding. I co-wrote the chapter in the Spring of 2010 and the book was published in June 2011. The book now has pride of place on my bookshelf.

My next challenge is to start work on my chapters for Information Literacy and Lifelong Learning: The workplace, health and public libraries The book will include previous research undertaken as part of the Scottish Information Literacy Project.
