Developing Research Excellence and Methods

CILIP LIRG (Library and Information Research group) have announced their Writing for Publication workshops which is being held in London at CILIP, Ridge,mount Street in conjunction with the CILIP London Branch.

Anyone interested in writing for publication – especially if they are new to the process – will find these two half day workshops useful. They include an introductory session aimed at new new writers and a follow up session for those interested in drafting a paper and receiving feedback.

The first workshop on the 31st January provides "an introduction to writing and gives you a chance to think about your ideas for publication". 

The second is on the 13th February and is a follow up half day workshop where you can: discuss/review draft papers; contribute a draft of your own for workshop discussion/ network and discuss experiences.

The workshops carry the CILIP Seal of Recognition

Cost:

£35 + VAT members of LIRG or CILIP in London.  £50 +VAT non-members.

For attending both seminars: £50 +VAT  LIRG or CILIP in London members; £75 + VAT non-members

A piece of news to those working in Scotland and interested in doing a piece of research.

I see that the final call for the SLIC (Scottish Library and Information Council) Innovation and Development Project Funding Call 2011 has gone out. It is open until 20th January 2012.
 

Applications are invited from eligible bidders and their partners and details of how to apply can be found at   http://www.slainte.org.uk/slic/innovation/idfindex.htm

Bids will go forward to the SLIC Board meeting in February 2012 for approval.

The fund this year offers GBP 20,000 in total and will distribute awards limited to a maximum of GBP 5,000. Bids which address the current priorities are invited from member organisations.

In the current economic climate for public services SLIC Board is particularly interested in stimulating bids that encourage:

• Shared services
• Smart delivery

Funding will be considered for a range of activities including, research, impact analysis, service development, staff training, creation of new resources for pilot and evaluation of new technology, case studies, preparation of good practice guides or promotion of standards.

It's good to see that there is still some money out there for small pieces of research.

Library and Information Research Group (LIRG) seeks new committee members

If you are interested in LIS research and want to assist with / contribute to LIS research events and activities?

Then they would like you to come and join them.

They are looking for new committee members to join them and would love to hear from you if you are a researcher, research student, lecturer or practitioner in the library and information profession.

The committee meets three times a year (March, June/July, November/December) and communicates electronically in between meetings. Travel expenses are covered by the committee.

Over the next twelve months the committee are working on a number of activities including:
• developing a marketing / publicity strategy for the group
• developing / running a programme of events, activities, awards and prizes
